Vehicle Warning Lights: What Do They Mean?

Vehicle warning lights – what do they mean and what do you have to do? Consult this guide from Massey Hyundai to understand what commonly seen Hyundai vehicle warning lights are trying to tell you and what action you should take, including:

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Service/Check Engine
  • Oil Pressure
  • Temperature Warning
  • Battery Check
  • Headlights

Engine

  • Temperature Warning Light: When this light is engaged, your engine may be overheating, which can stem from low coolant levels. If you see this light, immediately pull over to allow your car to cool down.
  • Oil Pressure Light: If you see this light in your dashboard, it’s likely that your engine has low oil pressure, which may indicate a leak. Check your oil levels and add more if needed.
  • Check/Service Engine Light: This light might be activated for a loose gas cap or something more serious. When you see this light, bring your vehicle to Massey Hyundai for testing as soon as possible.

Lights

When you engage different lights in your vehicle, your dashboard will let you know, in case you didn’t mean to turn them on. Some examples are:

  • Headlight Indicator
  • Fog Lights/Bright Lights
  • Hazard Lights

Additional Warning Lights

  • Battery Light: This light means there is a problem with your vehicle’s electrical system, whether that is a loose wire or your battery not holding a charge.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System: When there is a drop in air pressure in one or more of your tires, this light pops up. When it does, make sure to add air to your tires as soon as possible.
  • Anti-Lock Brake System Light: This light lets you know there is a problem with your vehicle’s anti-lock brake system and that your vehicle likely needs service.
  • Brake Light: This light comes on for a variety of reasons, from your emergency parking brake being engaged to low fluid levels, the latter of which requires immediate service.
