Getting a flat tire is never a fun experience, but knowing how to change a flat tire can be the difference between a frustrating and expensive roadside assistance call or just getting it done and moving on. Thankfully, changing a tire is not too difficult of a task. If you ever experience a flat in Hagerstown and Winchester, use these tips.

Pull over in a safe spot.

When your tire goes flat, you need to make sure you pull over as soon as possible in a very safe spot. If you’re on an expressway or highway, make sure this is far enough to the shoulder as possible. If you can, try to make it off to the next exit by turning your hazards on and driving slow.

In addition to ensuring the spot is safe from cars, you want to make sure you park your car on a flat surface.

Use the jack.

Find the jack, wrench, and spare tire. Then, use the wrench to loosen the lug nuts and remove the hub cab. Make sure you don’t completely remove the lug nuts. Now, use the jack to jack the car up and lift the vehicle off the ground.

Remove the tire.

Once the car is jacked, remove the lug nuts completely and take the tire off the vehicle.

Use the spare.

Once the old tire is removed, place the spare tire on the wheel base. Then, put the lug nuts back on the tire. Lower the car back to the ground and remove the jack. Finally, tighten the lug nuts completely so that the spare tire will not come off.

Clean up.

Make sure you put all your tools and the flat tire back in your vehicle.
